Blokes United Battle in Trans-Pennine Clash

On Saturday 16th November, Chorley FC Community Foundation partnered with Blokes United to send a team over to Chesterfield to play Chesterfield FC’s fans team ahead of the first team’s National League game. The below report was written by Sports Journalist and Blokes United player Ryley Gretton.

In a classic, thrilling and momentous encounter between the two roses of Lancashire and Yorkshire, our partners Blokes United fought a courageous game against their Chesterfield counterparts.

Having never played an 11-a-side fixture before, the Chorley branch of Blokes United did superbly well against a well-established Chesterfield side, falling just short in a 9-7 loss.

It was the definition of an end to end contest, with goals galore in the first half that saw our blokes head into the break with a 5-4 lead.

A similar story unfolded in the second half, Chesterfield having the better of possession and lady luck, their experience starting to show and leading them to more chances.

Despite the slim margins in the scoreline it easily would have been more, were it not for the Urwin-esque displays of our two goalkeepers on the day who put in a fantastic shift.

All this wouldn’t have been possible without the wonderful work of our club’s directors, our incredible community foundation and of course you, our fans. Feel free to pop down yourself to Blokes United, 8pm-9pm on Wednesdays, at Parklands High School.
